Pronunciation Guide

తtavsథtha

Plain vs aspirated: ‘tha’ has a puff of air, like the ‘t’ in ‘top’ but stronger.

తtavsటṭa

Dental vs retroflex: ‘ṭa’ curls the tongue back; ‘ta’ touches the teeth.

దdavsడḍa

Same idea for ‘d’: ‘ḍa’ is the curled-back (retroflex) version.

నnavsణṇa

‘ṇa’ is the retroflex ‘n’; ‘na’ is the normal ‘n’.

సsavsశśa

‘śa’ is ‘sh’ as in ‘shoe’; ‘sa’ is ‘s’ as in ‘sun’.

A Short Story

దయాలున్న రైతు — The Kind Farmer

ఒక ఊరిలో ఒక రైతు ఉండేవాడు.Oka ūrilō oka raitu uṇḍēvāḍu.In a village there lived a farmer.

అతను ప్రతి రోజు పొలంలో పని చేసేవాడు.Atanu prati rōju polaṁlō pani cēsēvāḍu.He worked in the field every day.

ఒక రోజు ఒక దాహంతో ఉన్న పక్షి వచ్చింది.Oka rōju oka dāhantō unna pakṣi vaccindi.One day a thirsty bird came.

రైతు దానికి నీళ్ళు ఇచ్చాడు.Raitu dāniki nīḷlu iccāḍu.The farmer gave it water.

అప్పటి నుండి పక్షి ప్రతి రోజు వచ్చేది.Appaṭi nundi pakṣi prati rōju vaccēdi.From then on the bird came every day.

దయ ఎప్పుడూ మంచి ఫలం ఇస్తుంది.Daya eppuḍū man̄ci phalaṁ istundi.Kindness always bears good fruit.
