Common Mistakes

Common Mistakes:

  • Using irukku vs irukkaren confusion: irukku there is (thing), irukkaren I am (person). Enakku car irukku I have car, naan irukkaren I am here.
  • Overusing written -girren in spoken sounds bookish; use -ren.
  • Mixing seyyala past negative vs seyyadhu? Seyyala didn’t do simple negative.
  • Future as present habit: kudippen I drink daily (future form used as habitual).
Cultural Note & Practice

Cultural Note: Tamil like Malayalam uses complex aspects. Past ‘kittu’ shows politeness: saapttu poren going after eating. Chennai impatience: ippo varen coming now but actually 30 min later – tamizh time.

Practice:

  1. Present: Naan work panren now.
  2. Past: Nethu varala yesterday didn’t come.
  3. Future: Naalaiku seiven will do tomorrow.
  4. Continuous: Saapttu kittu irukken eating now.
  5. Negative: Seyyala didn’t do.
